Which plan is right for me?

Web hosting, VPS or root server: it sounds more complex than it is. Once you know what each one actually means, the choice usually sorts itself out pretty quickly.

Web Hosting

Managed hosting: the server runs itself and you don't need to touch it. Upload your files, set up an email address, done. For most websites, blogs or small shops this is exactly what you need. It's the easiest and cheapest option, with zero administration headaches.

VPS (Virtual Private Server)

A virtual server with root access, so you install what you like: Docker, custom software, your own stack. That comes with responsibility: you administer the server yourself. If you want to run a custom app, a Node.js project or a game server, a VPS makes a lot of sense. If terms like "root access" and "system administration" feel unfamiliar, start with managed web hosting instead.

Root Server (dedicated)

Dedicated hardware with no shared resources at all. Worth it when you're running consistently heavy workloads and shared CPU or RAM would be too unpredictable. For a hobby project or a typical website, a dedicated root server is almost always overkill. You'd pay for capacity you'll never use.

How to redeem your Netcup voucher

You've got the code, so now comes the easy part. The Netcup order process has a dedicated field for it, and the whole thing only takes a moment.

  1. 1
Choose and configure your productHead over to Netcup, pick the plan that suits you (web hosting, VPS or root server) and add it to your cart. Set your preferred contract term and any other options.
  2. 2
Enter the voucher codeDuring checkout there's a field for promo codes or voucher codes. Paste your generated code there and confirm it. The discount is then deducted straight from your order total.
  3. 3
Complete your orderReview your order, pay, and you're done. One thing worth knowing: vouchers can't be combined with each other, so it's always one code per order. The separate 5€ instant voucher at the top is also for new customers only.

About Netcup

Netcup has been around since 2002, when Felix Preuß founded it as a one-man operation. It has since grown into a Karlsruhe-based internet service provider with over 100,000 customers, and has been part of the Anexia group since 2016. We have used netcup ourselves for years and can say honestly: it offers solid value for money across a wide range of use cases. But no hosting provider is perfect for everyone, and this one is no different.

What we like: the web hosting plans are straightforwardly priced. You get chroot environments with SSH access, free Let's Encrypt SSL certificates, and support for Ruby and Node.js. There are also reseller plans for agencies managing multiple client projects under one roof. On top of that, netcup offers a best-price guarantee and a satisfaction guarantee, and if you need tighter response-time commitments, an SLA+ contract is available.

On the server side, there are VPS, root servers and storage servers. VPS plans are billed per minute with no minimum contract, which is handy if you just want to test something without committing. Root servers give you dedicated CPU and RAM with a guaranteed 99.9% availability. For more demanding setups, netcup PRO includes managed servers where netcup handles the administration for you.

On sustainability, netcup states it runs on 100% green electricity. The company holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO/IEC 27001 certifications, and has won the HOSTtest audience vote for best web host of the year on several occasions. All hardware is brand-name, with every component duplicated for redundancy. That's not a unique claim in the industry, but it's applied consistently here.

Frequently Asked Questions about Netcup Vouchers

How do I redeem a Netcup voucher?

Click on ‘Generate voucher’, you instantly receive your personal code and redeem it directly during the Netcup order process.

Are the vouchers free?

Yes. Generating and using the vouchers is completely free for you.

Are the codes guaranteed to work?

Every code is generated live and is valid at the time of creation.

What is a Netcup voucher?

A Netcup voucher is a discount or promo code that saves you money on web hosting plans, VPS and root servers at the hosting provider Netcup.

Which products are vouchers available for?

We offer vouchers for Netcup web hosting, VPS servers and root servers, plus regularly changing special offers.

Can vouchers be combined with each other?

No. Netcup vouchers cannot be stacked, so it's always just one code per order. It's worth quickly checking which code saves you the most before you book.

Do the codes work for existing customers too?

Yes. Our voucher codes for web hosting, VPS and root servers work for existing Netcup customers just as well as for new ones. The one exception is the separate 5€ instant voucher near the top. That one is for new customers only. You'll always see the exact conditions again at Netcup during checkout.

How long are the voucher codes valid?

We generate every code live at Netcup the moment you click 'Generate voucher', so a freshly generated code is always valid. We can only keep a limited pool on hand, though, and we usually clear out codes that haven't been redeemed after about a day. So it's best to redeem your code right away. And if Netcup ends a promotion entirely, generating simply stops handing out new codes for it.

What is the G12 generation at Netcup?

G12 stands for netcup’s current, twelfth server hardware generation. Root servers and VPS in the G12 line run on modern AMD EPYC 9645 CPUs. Any new server you book today will be a G12 plan. Older generations are being phased out gradually.

Which plan is right for me: web hosting, VPS or root server?

Quick rule of thumb: web hosting is the right choice if you just want a website or blog without touching server admin. A VPS makes sense if you need root access and know your way around a Linux server. Root servers are built for sustained heavy workloads and are overkill for most hobby projects. There is a more detailed decision guide further up on this page if you want to dig in.
